Google Places is a free listing service that Google offers local advertisers, to make sure that information about your business can be easily found in Google's search results. Since this service is free, and will get your business information in front of potential customers searching for a business like yours in your location, setting up Google Places listings should be a part of every local search marketing strategy.

Recently, Google announced that they were combining their recommendation engine "Hotpot" into Google Places. This means that along with your business information, Google will display ratings, reviews, and feedback from your customers whenever your Places listing is shown in the search results. In addition, searchers will see recommendations from friends who have been customers of yours, or your competitors. It is now more important than ever to make sure that your local search strategy includes attention to your Google Places listing, and monitoriing and responding to what your customers have to say about you.
